  • Photography and Nature

    July 9, 2018 July 12, 2018, 1:30 pm 4:00 pm

Become a “Forest Bather”! Tali Kimelman is a photographer who found her sense of well-being by taking pictures in nature. Being in nature can help decrease stress levels, heart rate, and blood pressure. Students will learn about several photographers who use the trees, plants and flowers as their subject matter. We will become photographers spending time in the garden and on the trails around our school. Students will learn about being present in the moment, appreciating the calmness of nature and how to take photographs to capture these beautiful moments. Students do not need to bring a camera.

In paper airplane camp, we will research airplane designs using a variety of sources, as well as create and test out different airplanes in several categories. Students will test out their creations by measuring distance, target, straight-line precision and number of total loops. Other items of flight will also be explored-think Frisbees, aerobies, kites...this is a wonderful way to combine math and science in an outdoor environment!

In pond ecology, we will take water samples and look at the different organisms and life forms in the bodies of water around our school. We will also identify the types of plants and animals that live in our garden and wooded area. After we determine what wildlife is present, we will safely find ways to support their environment and make new animal friends! The week will culminate in doing a project that involves use of the scientific method and some exploration at Brownie Lake. Brownie Lake is just a short walk on the trail from our school.
